New UCFC manager has taken the reigns and is continuing the tradition of United City Football in the twin cities! The new-look team completed its Spring schedule in the Illinois Fusion Adult League. Scores posted on both sites!
http://www.illinoisfusion.com/page/show/894930-adult-league After a decision was made to not field the full 11 man squad in the Fall, it has been decided to reboot the team and field a full squad in the 2014. Some new opportunities and talents have been identified in the area to come back stronger then when we last played.
Any players interested should contact the manager via the website. Long time League President Ed Duran of Midwest Soccer Inc is stepping down after the Summer session playoffs and is handing the league that he created over to the Fusion Soccer Club. Ed has run the league in it's current format since the late 80's and his commitment and dedication to the job has been remarkable. Stepping into the void is the Illinois Fusion outfit led by Myron King http://www.illinoisfusion.com/. Acting as league club and player representative, UCFC Director of Football Operations Chris Kang attended a few meetings with other league managers and Fusion to ensure that the existing league teams will have the best possible product. Fields, referees, costs, organization, structure. It was agreed that Fusion ultimately would be a good fit for the existing league teams and they will take over in the Fall. Games will continue to be played at the existing location, Sale Barn fields. Every player will be required to purchase a $25 secondary insurance policy offered through Fusion. The league will be in compliance with the United States Soccer Federation. Referees will be required to be USSF certified and Fusion will look to bring-in only those referees with level 12 or better experience (from a system of 1-16 with 1 being a FIFA ref, 16 being the least experienced). Fusion will provide its website functionality to include a league website complete with standings and team websites (UCFC will continue to operate this independent site). The Fall session will be used as a test bed for Fusions' ability to run its first adult league and for the existing teams to assess continuation under Fusion administration.
League fees were one of the most contentious points in discussions and after some transparency in regards to Fusion's cost structure it was determined that fees will increase, however, not as much as originally expected. This move is viewed as a win-win for all parties involved for now, the City League is becoming more organized with better refereeing, all players will have insurance coverage and Fusion is getting an adult league to compliment its wealth of youth programs. UCFC looks forward to continued competition in the Fall. -CK Effective after the last spring game I am going to step down from
managing UCFC. It has been a true love affair. Five years later, and after much thought and consideration, I have come to a personal decision to hand the reins on. I founded the club in 2008 to exemplify good sportsmanship/chemistry, organization, and a highly competitive spirit. The rather gaudy record of 119 wins, 13 draws, 30 losses that the club has amassed during my tenure has simply been a byproduct of the team adhering to those core principles. Serving as a personal exercise in my own development of management skills, it has been challenging at times in identifying, recruiting and managing 70 different players while basing decisions, and holding people accountable, for the 'greater good of the team' and not for personal relationships or politics. Bringing in players who not only had ability, but who demonstrated the right behaviors has been the key. That is afterall what sets United players apart from the rest. I have been fortunate to have had a hand in developing my players on and off the field while forging many friendships! I am grateful to all the people who subscribed to my philosophies and who participated in the United City soccer experience. Central Illinois' most successful club team will be in the capable hands of UCFC legend Jamie Cox starting this summer. Jamie was with me from day 1, he was the first person I approached in 2008, and he exemplifies 'the United spirit'. Players respect Jamie and he has earned the trust and confidence of the team through his hardwork, attitude and approach. I wish him and the team much continued success! -CK Keith Berlin will join the side in the Spring and will wear the #1 shirt for UCFC. This move is the immdiate replacement for the departed Thulin. Berlin brings with him a wealth of experience as well as a very tall frame.
-ck Goalkeeper Joseph Thulin has announced that he will not continue with the team ahead of the 2013 season. Joe was an original member of the team when I assembled the first United City roster in the Spring of 2008. Thulin was the key to my successful strategy of building the team from the back first with a strong defense. He and mainstay center back Jamie Cox were the first recruits. I personally had played along side Thulin for 9 years going all the way back to our days with SystematicsFC. A gifted shot-stopper Thulin kept 52 clean sheets in 147 games over 5 seasons. His approach to his responsibilities is highly commendable staying in shape and being accountable. In the 147 games he was between the sticks he shipped only 162 goals for an astounding 1.1 goals against average. His services will be missed, we wish him the best of luck.
The website has been adjusted to more accurately reflect the teams' success.
British international Chris Matthews suffered a fracture to his left ankle and will likely miss the start of the 2013 campaign. John Solberg has returned from a short stay in Indiana and has committed to UCFC's attack. United City FC has inked a deal with Normal IL State Farm Agent Axel Jimenez effective immediately until the 2018 season when the deal is up for renwal. "We are pleased to be affiliated with State Farm Insurance once again, Axel and I used to be teammates many years back on the Systematics team, he understands soccer and understands a winning culture" Manager Christian Kang said Wednesday. The deal includes a clickable link on the website as well as potential shirt/jersey placement in future seasons. -CK For a rivalry with plenty of history (see Chris Kang shirt kick 2010), Thursday’s match-up with Pub II was a relatively one sided affair with UCFC securing a 5-0 win and three points. Striker Chad Fisher put UCFC on the board after a delightful combination with Recktenwald just before half. During halftime, Coach/Captain Kang made zero tactical adjustments which seemed to be just what his team needed. Mark Clinton got UCFC going in the second half with a quick goal followed by an additional goal for Fisher and two for Tipsord. The backline bolstered by the return of Armando Juarez turned in another steady performance. When asked about the result Kang stated “At UCFC we don’t want to win, we expect to win.”
