UC Tops Sting 2-0
Despite several players making their club debut, UC didn't miss a beat. Facing an always competitive Wild Sting side, United City was able to control the game thanks to new additions at center midfield Kyle Wallace and Justin Recktenwald. All four members of the back line turned in strong performances in route to the shut out including two goal saving clears on the goal line. United City received goals from club veterans Justin Tipsord and Frank Herrada. In the post game news conference when asked to comment on his game clinching goal Herrada stated "There is a reason they call me big Frank." The result was even more impressive considering the absence of the team's leading scorer and fan favorite Chad Fisher. Next up: Athens @ 6:00 -JT

For the second time in three years I'm dealing with an absolute injury headache. Two weeks and three games have claimed Rebenszki (knee), Herrada (hamstring), Ramsey (hamstring), Surber( and myself. I had to patch together players from Pegasus (former UCFC guys) and a Ken Whitaker just to give us 11 men in the Wild Sting game, the second of two matches back-to-back. While we drew to Pub II and lost to Wild Sting I can look ahead with optimism as we play Midstate next week before the playoffs start and we enter the 2 seed.
Quick post about the new 2012 season: Thulin returns between the sticks after allowing a club record low 9 goals last in 2011. Chad Fisher returns in the high powered attack with Justin Tipsord. This Spring we will be without defender/midfielder Armando Juarez and former West Virginia central midfielder Justin Recktenwald, hoping they can come back in the Summer and Fall.
After the first match we quickly suffered the clubs' worst ever defeat with a full 11 players in a 5-1 loss to WCSC. The match against AthensFC was posponed and will be made-up later this Spring. The match on April 30th has been moved to set up a classic Sugar Creek match-up against UCFC's longest-running rival Pub II. Last night was a case of injury to insult. Starting with 10 against 11 in the CelticFC match we were quickly reduced to 8 when Joe Thulin broke his arm on a contact play with the oposing forward. He was released from St Josephs Medical Centre last night and will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs. Finished the game with 9 and lost 4-0 for our second loss of the year.
UCFC teams conclude the State Farm Employee Activities soccer season.
From 4/24 to 9/26 and 14 games the playoffs were decided on PK's between our two teams fittingly with Dibbs edging Cat5 in the shootout. I decided it was too dark (which it was) and we called the match at 2-1 us. I thought it only right to give them a 2-2 draw because they waited for us for :15 as most of the team was across the street deciding the SFEA championship. That match was won 1-1 (3:2 aet) by Joe Thulin and his "Dibbs" team. Congratulations.
And on another congratulatory note, with last night's draw, for an all-time team record we have pushed our results-to-loses to the .800 mark. That was my largest goal to aim for this year and mission accomplished. The unbeaten run continues into the fall. Outgoing will be Chris Matthews and Mark Killick.

Didn't take too long, and of course Chad Fisher netted the opening goal in the recent 8-0 win over Dark Rising in the playoff. Co-captian Giblers' coupon for the 300th scorer though had since expired, sorry Chad!
