Effective after the last spring game I am going to step down from
managing UCFC. It has been a true love affair. Five years later, and after much thought and consideration, I have come to a personal decision to hand the reins on. I founded the club in 2008 to exemplify good sportsmanship/chemistry, organization, and a highly competitive spirit. The rather gaudy record of 119 wins, 13 draws, 30 losses that the club has amassed during my tenure has simply been a byproduct of the team adhering to those core principles. Serving as a personal exercise in my own development of management skills, it has been challenging at times in identifying, recruiting and managing 70 different players while basing decisions, and holding people accountable, for the 'greater good of the team' and not for personal relationships or politics. Bringing in players who not only had ability, but who demonstrated the right behaviors has been the key. That is afterall what sets United players apart from the rest. I have been fortunate to have had a hand in developing my players on and off the field while forging many friendships! I am grateful to all the people who subscribed to my philosophies and who participated in the United City soccer experience. Central Illinois' most successful club team will be in the capable hands of UCFC legend Jamie Cox starting this summer. Jamie was with me from day 1, he was the first person I approached in 2008, and he exemplifies 'the United spirit'. Players respect Jamie and he has earned the trust and confidence of the team through his hardwork, attitude and approach. I wish him and the team much continued success! -CK
